I Amendment: Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
IV Amendment: The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.
With everyday throwing more NEWS in our faces, it becomes more and more difficult to step back from IT all and breathe…really grasp where we ARE and where we’re GOING. With this in mind I ask that momentarily, as hard as it may be right now, we step back and look at things outside of the gulf coast. Something big is going down right NOW…the hour-glass has suddenly sped up and the changes that are soon to come, will, or in any case may very likely, affect generations of Americans.
Our president now is in the improbable position of being faced with two Supreme Court vacancies…
I’ve been reading more and more Thompson – hell, I should be considering the sizeable tattoo on my leg – and reading the stuff during the Clinton campaign, and more relevantly – the appointment of Clarence Thomas by the elder Bush in Thompson’s “Better than Sex – Confessions of a Political Junkie.”
Not too much detail in there, but – while not having significant knowledge on politics – these brief pages related to the current “appointment process” with Roberts and opened up my “third-eye” as it were, to what was taking place around me and the importance of paying attention.
Now with another opening the Nation’s highest court may be very different, very soon…
My point with all this is simply – we all need to pay as much attention to this as we are to the tragedy down South. These are the folks that make our laws and ultimately decide how we, as Americans, are going to be living our lives day to day…and with two wide-open vacancies in such a short span of time, our president is in a position to possibly change the face of the High Court for an entire generation(s) – ie: going right, going straight, or going waaaayyy left (and to be honest I don’t even know what that really means, but I’m pretty sure the supreme court isn’t supposed to “waaaayyy” anything)…don’t forget, these are “for life” positions…and if you don’t think that while young George is flying over New Orleans today he’s not salivating at the thought of being the man that changed the face of the American Supreme Court...
I leave you with this from the good doctor’s book; he has seen them (politicians) from all sides, angles and vantage points:
In politics, there is no honor.
